If you are looking at a shelf of capsules and trying to pick by product name, you are starting at the wrong end.
The more useful first question is what is inside the capsule shell — because with Healing Essence there are two answers, and they lead to genuinely different products.

The two bases
Raw flower capsules contain milled cannabis flower. The plant material is encapsulated without the heating step that converts the cannabinoid acids, so more of what was in the field is still there — a broader spread of naturally occurring cannabinoids, including a higher proportion of acid forms such as CBDa and CBGa.
Sesame oil capsules take a different route. Specific cannabinoids are paired with sesame oil, in chosen amounts. There is no attempt to preserve the plant's full original chemistry; the point is a defined combination.
One keeps the plant broad. The other makes it precise.
How they behave differently
Our formulation materials describe the two routes this way.
Raw flower capsules move through the digestive system, and are formulated for a slower release over a longer window.
Sesame oil capsules are described as taking a lymphatic route, with higher cannabinoid bioavailability and a quicker release than raw flower.
A caution worth stating: bioavailability and absorption route are areas where the published research on cannabinoids is still developing, and individual variation is substantial. Treat these as the formulation intent rather than a promise about what will happen in your body on a given day.
Which capsules sit in which base
| Base | Formulas | Shape of the formula |
|---|---|---|
| Raw flower | ACTIVE, RENEW, CALM | Full spectrum, broader cannabinoid range, slower release |
| Sesame oil | RESTORE, RELAX, RELIEF | Targeted cannabinoid combinations, quicker release |
Within raw flower, ACTIVE is the outlier — built on CBDa and CBGa rather than CBD. RENEW and CALM are a morning and evening pair on the same CBD foundation, separated by their botanicals: ashwagandha and cacao in one, valerian root, lavender and tulsi basil in the other.
Within sesame oil, RESTORE and RELAX are also a morning and evening pair, separated by a single cannabinoid: CBG in one, CBN in the other. RELIEF carries both and is the flexible one.
Choosing between them
Neither base is the better base. They answer different questions, and the useful move is to work out which question is yours.
Raw flower makes sense if you want the plant closer to how it grew, you are specifically interested in the acid cannabinoids, or you like the idea of botanicals in the same capsule rather than taken separately.
Sesame oil makes sense if you would rather know exactly which cannabinoids you are taking and in what amounts, you want a quicker onset, or you want to keep your morning and evening formulas cleanly separated.
One more consideration. RENEW and CALM, both raw flower, each contain 2 mg of THC as part of the full-spectrum profile. Every Healing Essence product is formulated to stay under the federal 0.3% threshold, but if you are sensitive to THC or subject to workplace testing, the three sesame oil formulas are the ones built without it.
How to actually test the difference
Pick one base and stay with it long enough to learn something. A fortnight of consistent timing on one formula will tell you more than a month of switching between two.
Change one variable at a time. If you run a raw flower capsule in the morning and a sesame oil capsule at night from day one, you will have no way of reading which did what.
And write it down. Timing, sleep, how the day went. Rough notes beat recollection.
